Young II Kimm

  • Discipline:Writer
  • Program Year:Screenwriting Lab 2005

Bio

Young Il Kim was born in Seoul, Korea and grew up in New Jersey. He has an economics degree from Harvard University where he was the business manager of The Harvard Crimson, the student daily newspaper. His internet start-up ventures have been featured in Fortune, Business Week, Industry Standard, and The Boston Herald. Despite the favorable press of his business acumen, Young was a failure as an entrepreneur who burned through 5 million dollars in venture funding for three internet start-ups with little to show for it.

Young moved to Santa Monica three years ago to pursue an MFA in Screenwriting from USC Cinema and Television. His first script, Hyung, was a June Filmmaker’s Lab Finalist at Sundance, Chesterfield Quarterfinalist, and Austin Finalist in 2002. However, he hopes that his skills have improved considerably since then. Young plans to stick to screenwriting and allow more capable and talented individuals to produce and direct his screenplays.
