Bio

Susan West produced Jessica Yu’s latest film Protagonist, a look at extremism through the lives of four seemingly disparate individuals. The film premiered in competition at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and won Best Documentary at the Atlanta Film Festival. Protagonist was released theatrically by IFC and Red Envelope Entertainment in Fall 2007. West produced In the Realms of the Unreal, also directed by Yu. Realms, which debuted in competition at Sundance 2004, won Best Documentary at the Vancouver International Film Festival, received a Gotham Award nomination for Best Documentary, and was short-listed for an Oscar nomination. Released nationally in theatres and broadcast on the PBS series P.O.V., Realms was nominated for P.O.V.’s first Primetime Emmy Award in 2006 – Exceptional Merit in Nonfiction Filmmaking.

West is currently producing 36 short films and series for LStudio.com scheduled to launch Summer 2008, and developing the comedy The Last Days of Sweetpatch with Second City alum Jenna Jolovitz, Evie Shapiro, and Ellin Baumel. Her most recent narrative film project, Elysian Fields, written by and produced with Jeffrey LaHoste, was accepted into Film Independent’s 2006 Producers Lab, the Fast Track program at the 2007 Los Angeles Festival, and IFP’s 2007 No Borders program. Susan is on the board of the International Documentary Association, a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and a 2006 Film Independent Producing Fellow.
