Bio
Laura most recently produced the feature film It Follows with partner Rebecca Green, the debut film under their newly formed Two Flints banner. Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, It Follows premiered to rave reviews in Critics’ Week at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Smith also recently completed the documentary feature Holbrook/Twain: An American Odyssey with filmmaker Scott Teems. An inside look at actor Hal Holbrook and his famed one-man stage show Mark Twain Tonight!, the documentary will debut with a “sneak peek” screening at the 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival followed by its official World Premiere as the Opening Night film at the AFI DOCS festival in Washington D.C. Smith is currently in post-production on the feature films I’ll See You in My Dreams, co-written and directed by Brett Haley and starring Blythe Danner, Sam Elliott, June Squibb, Martin Starr, Rhea Perlman, Mary Kay Place, and Malin Akerman, and Victor, a faith-based true story of addiction and redemption by filmmaker Brandon Dickerson. Previously, Smith produced the award-winning feature film That Evening Sun, which garnered the Audience Award and a Special Jury Prize at its 2009 SXSW premiere and two Film Independent Spirit Award nominations, and Sironia, winner of the Audience Award at its 2011 Austin Film Festival premiere. She also served as Co-Producer and Associate Producer on many notable independents, including George Hickenlooper’s Factory Girl and Don Roos’ Happy Endings. Smith is a Film Independent Producing Lab Fellow and has lectured for the film programs at U.C.L.A and Baylor University. She began her filmmaking career working under award-winning filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson and his producer JoAnne Sellar at Ghoulardi Film Company, and acclaimed writer-director Andrew Niccol. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from U.C.L.A. with a major in Communication Studies and specialization in Business & Administration.
