Bio

Juli Kang was born in Seoul, Korea and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her BA from Wesleyan University in Connecticut where she majored in History. After discovering a passion for filmmaking while producing a documentary about refugee and immigrant youth in Philadelphia, Kang moved back to Los Angeles to pursue an MFA in film directing at UCLA. Her films Princess Fever and The Liberation of Everyday Life have played at various festivals, and her musical Damn the Past! won the 2007 UCLA Directors Spotlight Award and Student Awards in Excellence in Visual Design and Originality. She is the recipient of the 2007 Directors Guild of America Student Directing Award and attended the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2008. She is developing a new musical film and is in post-production on her documentary about a small convenience store in Santa Ana entitled Lee’s Market.
