Bio

Joseph H. Shim was born in Philadelphia and raised in Southern California. Prior to becoming a filmmaker, Shim had more than a decade of experience working in accounting and finance. In 2006, he founded Daydreamer Pictures and Plain Label Productions. Plain Label was formed to provide job placement for minority below-the-line crew. With a grant for Diversity in Casting/Crew, he began producing projects that dealt with multi-cultural issues. Working primarily with first time writer/directors, 10 short films were produced within a 12-month span. Shim also freelances as a production sound mixer and has worked for clients such as MTV, Discovery Channel, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tyra Banks Show. Shim is in current development with three feature films, Akira’s Place and Lettuce in Life both with director Joe Doughrity, and Backpackers with director Danny Lee.

Logline

Akira's Place: A Japanese American hip-hop DJ falls in love with a young, black culinary student. As their relationship blossoms, they must deal with the backlash from family, friends, and strangers. Lettuce in Life: Three best friends raised in Orange County deal with friendship, career, and relationship in this thirty-something coming-of-age story. Backpackers: A housebroken teen embarks on a college tour, only to veer off in search of his estranged family and answers to his dark childhood.
