Bio
Janine Salinas moved to the United States at the age of eight from Lima, Peru and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. She received her MFA from the University of Southern California’s Dramatic Writing Program in 2007. As a playwright she has had works developed at CASA 0101, Watts Village Theatre Company, Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble, East LA Rep, Chalk Repertory Theatre, Playwright’s Arena (Los Angeles Theatre Center), South Coast Repertory, and the Inkwell in Washington DC.
This coming spring, her newest play, The Anatomy of Gazellas, will receive its world premiere at the Los Angeles Theatre Center. Salinas has been nominated for the Princess Grace Award, The Wendy Wasserstein Prize, and was a Quarterfinalist for the Nicholl Fellowship for her screenplay, Tercio de Muerte. She was a member of the 2009-2010 Center Theatre Group Writers Workshop and a 2010 MacDowell Fellow. She is currently working on a new feature length screenplay about a young female super hero growing up in East LA. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, composer Adam Schoenberg.
