Bio

Producer Giovanna Chesler produces and directs films addressing the body, sexuality, and gender. Her hour-long documentary Period: The End of Menstruation, distributed by Cinema Guild, New York, facilitated an international conversation on the pharmaceutically induced trend of menstrual suppression when it was covered on the front page of The New York Times. Her six short films have screened at 120 festivals in 15 countries and include the fiction film: Bye Bi Love, (Honorable Mention in Fiction, University Film and Video Association) and the documentary, Beauteous: Stephanie, (Best Student Documentary Chicago International Film Festival, Honorable Mention Georgetown Independent Film Festival). This fall she assumes the role of Director of the Film and Video Studies Program at George Mason University and Associate Professor of Communication, teaching documentary production, transmedia for social justice, and producing media for health.
