Bio

Geoffrey Quan is an independent filmmaker, and a graduate of Columbia University’s MFA film program. His last film, The Other Way Round, sponsored by HBO Films and the Film Arts Foundation, was an official selection at over 10 festivals, including the 2009 Los Angeles International Shorts Festival and the 2009 DC Asian Pacific American Film Festival, where it was the Opening Night Short. In addition to his directing efforts, Quan has produced seven shorts, including John Magary’s The Second Line (Winner, Grand Jury Prize for Short Film, AFI Dallas 2008; Winner, Special Jury Award, SXSW 2008; Sundance 2008; Clermont- Ferrand 2008) and Nelson Kim’s Long Distance (Palm Springs Shortfest 2008, SFIAAFF 2008, AAIFF 2008,), and served as co-producer on Myna Joseph’s MAN (Sundance 2008, ND/NF 2008, Directors’ Fortnight 2008). In 2009, Quan received the BRIO Award for Narrative Filmmaking and was one of four participants in the yearlong IFP Marcie Bloom Fellowship in Film. He has taught directing at Columbia University and Sarah Lawrence College, and has shot videos for New York Magazine and The Wall Street Journal. Most recently, he served as production coordinator on James Marsh’s feature documentary, Project NIM. He is currently in postproduction on the short film Be Still, which he co-wrote and directed.
