Bio
Ms. Marouda’s educational background includes a BA in International Relations from the Athens University of Economics, an MBA in Marketing from California State University, Long Beach, and a Certified Program in “Business and Management for Entertainment: Marketing and Distribution” from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
In 2001, after working as a New Media Coordinator at Lions Gate Entertainment, Ms. Marouda began her career as an independent marketing consultant at the entertainment industry. She created marketing campaigns, including posters and trailers, for independent films.
On the creative side, Ms. Marouda is part of The Marketing Challenge, a project coordinated by Ira Teller, an expert in creating advertising campaigns for motion pictures. The project involves the creation of marketing strategies and key art for four films selected to take part in the Sundance Scriptwriters’ Lab. Through this program, Ms. Marouda has created the key art for The Slaughter Rule (2001), Love in the Time of Money (2001) and Searching for Paradise (2002).
Ms. Marouda entered the film festival arena in 2001 when she worked closely with the Director of Programming and Producer of Special Events for the American Film Institute (AFI) Film Festival. In 2002, she worked with the Programming and Marketing Coordinator at the IFP/Los Angeles Film Festival. In 2002, Ms. Marouda took the ambitious initiative to establish the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles as a non-profit organization, the first and only film festival in the U.S. dedicated to showcasing films from and about India by Indian and international filmmakers. AFI was the first affiliate organization to come on board and support Ms. Marouda in her challenging efforts. The festival premiered successfully on April 23-27, 2003 and was established as an annual event.
Ms. Marouda was born and raised on the Island of Crete in Greece. She speaks Greek, English, Spanish, Italian and French and loves traveling and films. She is an aficionado of Indian culture and cinema.
