Bio

Noted as one of ten exciting new voices in Black cinema by indieWire, Aaliyah Williams’ first short film, The Young and Evil, was an official selection at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. She secured domestic and international distribution for the short, with the first release in November on Pecadillo Picture’s Boys on Film 3: American Boy. Additional DVD compilations through Strand releasing and Bildkraft are set for 2010. Williams began her entertainment career working and nurturing relationships at companies such as the Endeavor Agency; producer Effie Brown’s Duly Noted, Inc.; and Forward Pass, Inc., where she worked directly with award-winning director Michael Mann. Her producing and line producing talent has been recognized as a 2008 Fellow of the Sundance Independent Producer’s Conference. She produced the ground-breaking web series Buppies, created by her directing partner Julian Breece and starring Tatyana Ali, which aired on BET.com in November 2009. She also produced the comedy series Why Are We Friends?, created by Nate Stutz. Williams is developing two feature films, Heartland, written and to be directed by Julian Breece, and Cry Laughing, written and to be directed by Tanya Steele. She is a graduate of Harvard University where she was a producer and stage manager at the American Repertory Theater.

Logline

Heartland explores the torrid relationship between a YOUNG BLACK MAN and his ESTRANGED WHITE HALF-SISTER who struggle to make a familial connection, but instead find themselves locked in a battle of long-held resentment and unspeakable desire.
