Infinite Lives tells the story of 83-year-old gamer Kent Neveu as he reflects on his relationship with video games since 1976 and how it has affected his life ever since. Kent embarks on a new quest to get under the hood of his favorite games by traveling to Bethesda Game Studios with his son Brett. Infinite Lives explores the intersections of technology, aging, games, and reality as we see how games can bring people together.
Synopsis
In 1976, Kent Neveu popped a coin into the upright video game Sea Hunt while waiting for his car to be repaired at an Arizona gas station. Since that moment, he’s been hooked. From Pong in the 70s, Atari in the 80s, Nintendo in the 90s, PC Gaming in the 2000s, and now with the latest Xbox Series X, Kent’s been on the cutting edge as a player and enthusiast. Now in his mid-eighties, Kent continues his amazing video game obsession, making him one of the oldest consistent players in video game history. Infinite Lives is a feature documentary that explores one man’s love of gaming to reveal the heart of a forever player, show how video games can enhance our lives, and explore the joy of gaming as an infectious, beautiful, and wonderfully human experience. Pairing interviews with industry insiders, game designers, and digital media professors, Infinite Lives delves deep into the effects video games have on aging, their enhancement of relationships, and how they spark our imaginations to flourish. From the documentary’s “he was there” point of view, Kent gains new insights into the explosive rise of gaming in popular culture and its history as we examine the changing modes of gaming for atypical players, culminating in Kent’s real-life quest to learn more about the hobby that’s been with him his entire life as he travels to different arcades and gaming studios with the mission to see himself immortalized in a video game itself.
