In partnership, Film Independent and Plot Shift Media offer grants and educational opportunities for independent artists seeking to explore a just and equitable climate future – and the pathways to get there – through innovative storytelling.
 

The Climate Entertainment Development Grant

The Climate Entertainment Initiative will award a $25,000 development grant to a filmmaker who is accepted into Film Independent’s Screenwriting Lab or Fast Track with a climate-focused fiction feature.

$5,000 of the grant must be earmarked towards the packaging of the project, including the creation of a budget and schedule and/or the hiring of a casting consultant. The screenplay must feature climate themes or have a lead character that is grappling with climate themes. The grant committee prioritizes projects that take an entertainment-first approach to climate storytelling and inspire feelings of possibility and agency when it comes to climate solutions, especially through characters and genres not traditionally associated with “climate stories.”

The Climate Entertainment Commissioning Grant

The Climate Entertainment Initiative will award one writer participating in Project Involve with a $25,000 Commissioning Grant to write a new climate-focused fiction feature script, helping to build a pathway for projects centered around climate.

The six talented writers selected to participate in Project Involve will each develop ideas and submit a treatment focused on climate and environmental impact within the United States. One writer will be awarded the $25,000 Commissioning Grant to develop their treatment into a feature script. Support and script consultation will be provided to the awardee throughout the program.
