Detailed nominations and eligibility information for the Global Media Makers program
Requirements & Guidelines
Applications to Global Media Makers will be considered by nomination only. To qualify, eligible applicants must:
1) Be a citizen or a permanent resident of a country in one of the eligible program regions of Africa, Asia (Central, South and West Asia), Eastern Europe (with a focus on Ukraine) and Latin America, and be currently working and residing full time in a country in one of these regions. Please note that U.S. citizens, residents or green card holders are not eligible for this program.
2) Be a mid-career filmmaker with at least one to three produced projects as a writer, producer or director (in film, television and/or serial web content). College graduates from the classes of 2022 through 2024 are not eligible to apply.
3) Submit an online application about a project currently in advanced development or production that addresses issues of local importance in the applicant’s home country.
4) Have a completed screenplay or teleplay (fiction filmmakers) or have at least a 40-minute assembly edit (documentary filmmakers).
5) Be proficient in English, which is required to participate in the program, as it is the common language used by Global Media Makers. All materials must be submitted in English.
Candidates may apply as individuals or as two-person creative teams comprised of writers, directors and producers only. Preference will be given to creative teams, but individuals will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.
GMM will contact qualified nominated candidates with instructions and a link to an online application form.
Please note: Selected participants must attend the full duration of the program in Los Angeles. GMM fully covers the costs of the program, including transportation and accommodation, for participants. Participants may not be accompanied by family members or dependents.
