LOS ANGELES (March 2, 2023) – Film Independent, the nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering independence and inclusivity in visual storytelling, announced this morning the final additional presenters at the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards. Joining host Hasan Minhaj, as well as the previously announced presenters, this group of artists will reveal the award recipients at the Santa Monica beach on Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 pm PST, streamed live on IMDb’s YouTube channel, as well as Film Independent’s YouTube and Twitter accounts. The Spirit Awards are Film Independent’s largest annual celebration, making year-round programming for filmmakers and film-loving audiences possible while amplifying the voices of independent storytellers and celebrating their diversity, originality and uniqueness of vision.
The additional lineup of presenters includes Adam Brody, Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Dae Kim, Danielle Deadwyler, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jeremy Pope, Jodie Turner-Smith, Joel Kim Booster, Kevin Bacon, Lily Tomlin, Molly Shannon, Nicholas Braun, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Simona Tabasco, Stephanie Hsu, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and W. Kamau Bell. They will be joining the previously announced Honorary Co-Chairs, Academy Award winners and Film Independent Fellows Chloé Zhao and Siân Heder.
After walking the blue carpet, Spirit Awards nominees will enjoy the Santa Monica sun during an outdoor reception featuring many notable brand installations.
Returning this year is the IMDb Portrait Studio. All talent and filmmakers are invited to visit IMDb’s exclusive studio with celebrity photographer Michael Rowe during the pre-show reception by making their way to the Backstage. All presenters and winners will be escorted to this location after their stage appearance. Portraits will be published on Getty, as well as featured on IMDb.com and its apps and social channels, reaching hundreds of millions of entertainment fans around the world.
Also back is the Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Lounge. Ambassador and mixologist Kyle McHugh will serve up custom cocktails for Bulleit Frontier Whiskey. The brand is also presenting this year’s Producers Award, honoring emerging producers who, despite highly limited resources, demonstrate the creativity, tenacity and vision required to produce quality, independent narrative films. The winner receives a $25,000 unrestricted cash grant. As a longtime champion and advocate of those who are breaking the status quo, the launch of the Bulleit Pioneer Project last year celebrates those on the frontier of culture. This award is another example of that commitment.
For the 11th year as the Official Water, FIJI Water, the top premium imported bottled water in the United States, looks forward to bringing its iconic square bottles to the blue carpet. The 330mL bottle, now made from 100% recycled plastic (rPET), will be keeping all nominees, presenters and guests hydrated from arrivals through the show during the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
For the first time this year, Fleur De Miraval, the Champagne house known worldwide to be the only Champagne house exclusively devoted to Rosé Champagne, is the official champagne of the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards and will be served alongside Miraval Rosé from Provence throughout the celebrations.
This year, Film Independent is Celebrating 30 Years of Artist Development, the year-round program supporting emerging filmmakers. Nominees, Presenters and Film Independent Fellows are invited to stop by the Celebrating 30 Years of Artist Development tent at this year’s Spirit Awards to record messages and stories that we can share with our community throughout the year.
All nominees were previously hosted at Hotel Casa del Mar, the luxurious oceanfront property in Santa Monica and official hotel partner of the 2023 Spirit Awards, for the Spirit Awards Nominee Brunch. The event was sponsored by GreenSlate, whose innovative all-in-one app for production accounting and payroll, plus their deep commitment to minimize our impact on the environment, has made them the platform of choice for independent and many Spirit Awards nominees.
