Synopsis
Rose is a pathologist who finds biological reproduction distasteful, but is obsessed with its clinical processes; gestating materials in her body in order to bring the dead back to life. Celie is a maternity nurse and single mother whose life revolves around her five-year-old daughter, Lila. Efficient and empathetic, she is dedicated to helping women give birth in a supportive environment. Their worlds collide when Lila dies suddenly and is reanimated by Rose, whose “experiment” is discovered by the girl’s grieving mother. The women are forced to compromise their deepest values as they struggle to keep their little girl alive.
Biography
Laura Moss is a filmmaker from New York City. They have been named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film,” an IFP Emerging Storyteller, a Eugene O’Neill Fellow and a Sundance Screenwriters and Directors Lab Fellow. Laura’s short-form work has screened at Tribeca, Rotterdam and SXSW. Their film, Fry Day, is featured on the Criterion Channel. Their debut feature, Birth/Rebirth, premiered in the Midnight section at Sundance 2023 and was distributed theatrically in the US by IFC Films.
