The adage that it’s easier to make a film than it is to get it seen couldn’t be more true for shorts. Statistically speaking, it’s easier for a student to get into Harvard than for a short to be accepted by Sundance.
Film Independent is pleased to welcome filmmaker Clarissa Jacobson to share her experiences writing and producing the short Lunch Ladies. She’ll explain how she went from a filmmaker who knew nothing about the festival circuit to playing over 100 festivals, winning more than 40 awards, 80 reviews/interviews, and securing much-coveted online distribution.
About the speaker
Clarissa Jacobson is the writer, producer and creator of the multi-award-winning comedy/horror short Lunch Ladies, which is based on her feature. The film garnered 42 awards and can now be seen all over the world on Prime Video, Kanopy, Troma Now! and France’s Canal+. In addition, Clarissa has three feature films optioned; Land of Milk and Honey, Spook Stalkers!, and Stella By Starlight. Originally from Minnesota, Clarissa has a BA in theatre from Indiana University and trained at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. Her new book, I Made a Short Film Now WTF Do I Do With It (a guide to film festivals, promotion and surviving the ride), is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and her website – heyimclarissaj.com. Clarissa happily resides in Los Angeles with all the other weirdos.
