Members-Only Screening: Rotting in the Sun

Arts Circle and Film Lover Members, you and a guest are invited to join us for a theatrical screening of Rotting in the Sun, followed by an in-person conversation with writer/director Sebastián Silva and actor Jordan Firstman, moderated by Kate Mason (Programming & Events, Film Independent).
A MUBI release.

Beverages will be served prior to the screening, starting at 7:00 pm PT.

Sebastián Silva is a two-time Film Independent Spirit Award nominee, for his films The Maid (2010) and Crystal Fairy (2014).

This year we’re celebrating #AD30, in recognition of our three-decade journey working with and for independent artists. Join the celebration and donate today to support our next 30 years of Artist Development.

Sebastián Silva’s Sundance hit Rotting in the Sun is a darkly funny and refreshingly audacious meta-comedy that skewers the business of filmmaking and our self-obsessed culture. While unwinding in a Mexican gay beach town, depressed director Sebastián Silva meets gregarious Instagram influencer Jordan Firstman (both playing versions of themselves), and Sebastián reluctantly agrees to collaborate on an upcoming project. But when Jordan arrives back in Mexico City, Sebastián is nowhere to be found. Jordan dances, sleeps and snorts his way through the city as he embarks on a quasi-detective journey to get to the bottom of Sebastián’s disappearance.

Director Sebastían Silva’s debut feature The Maid released to widespread acclaim, winning Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize for World Cinema, and earning a Golden Globe nomination and a Film Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. The success of The Maid took Silva to Sundance again several years later to premiere two new films: Magic Magic and Crystal Fairy. Silva won the Sundance Directing Award: World Cinema – Dramatic for Crystal Fairy and was nominated for the John Cassavetes Award at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. His movies have been shown in other prestigious film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin and Telluride, to name a few. He is currently in development on two new feature projects. In television, Sebastian has written and directed for several HBO series. He most recently helmed Season 2 of Los Espookys and consulted on the The Staircase series for Antonio Campos/Annapurna/HBO Max.
