Members-Only Q&A: Unorthodox
Film Independent Members and guests are invited to join us for a live Q&A with Unorthodox creator/showrunner/executive producer Anna Winger, co-creator/writer/producer Alexa Karolinski, director Maria Schrader, costume designer Justine Seymour and actors Shira Haas and Amit Rahav. Moderated by journalist Marisa Mazria Katz.
Why would you leave the only life you’ve ever known? Unorthodox tells the story of a young woman from the Hasidic community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn who breaks out of her arranged marriage and travels to Berlin to find herself. But just as she discovers a whole new world, the past catches up with her.
The four-part original miniseries, shot in Yiddish and English, was created by Anna Winger and Alexa Karolinski, inspired by Deborah Feldman’s bestseller of the same name, and directed by Maria Schrader. Shira Haas, Jeff Wilbusch and Amit Rahav star.
The drama was translated by Eli Rosen (New Yiddish Repertory Theater, New York), and produced by Anna Winger’s Studio Airlift and Henning Kamm’s REAL FILM Berlin.
Unorthodox is available on Netflix.
