Spirit Awards Host Mystery Solved: It’s Patton Oswalt!
Actor/comedian/Live Read superstar Patton Oswalt will host our favorite day of Awards Season, the Film Independent Spirit Awards on March 1, 2014. “Patton has been a long supporter of our organization, he has participated in several Film Independent Live Reads at LACMA and is also a card holding member of the organization. I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us at the Awards show in March,” said Josh Welsh, President of Film Independent.
Oswalt joins a great tradition of insolent hosts who take joy in joking about the thrill of the gig:
Andy Samberg: “…I can finally do all the material that would be appreciated only in this room, like “Hey Wes Anderson, Hal Ashby called. He wants his establishing shots back.”
Rainn Wilson: “The Independent Spirit Awards honor the very best of independent cinema. And that title applies to a huge spectrum of movies. Some of them have been seen across the country, and adored by tremendously diverse audiences and even cross the $150 million mark, like Juno. Some of them are completely obscure and you’ve never even heard of them—like every single other movie we’re honoring today.”
Sarah Silverman: “What’s the difference between the Independent Spirit Awards and the Oscars? The Oscars are chosen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. These are chosen by Judah Friedlander.”
