I am Film Independent… Are You? Become a Member Today
So here we sit, five full days after the conclusion of the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards—a historic, groundbreaking event sure to go down as one of the greatest afternoons in awards show history.
It was a big day, so who can blame us for still continuing to nurse our hangover—both literal and figurative—well into this foggy Thursday morning? After all, what use is the #TBT hashtag if not to remember the extremely recent past.
There are plenty of Spirit Awards highlights on our YouTube channel, but unless you were actually in the tent with us in Santa Monica, you may have missed our brand-new Film Independent trailer, which kicked the show off in style…
Produced and directed by Project Involve Fellow Ryan Velasquez, the spot—“I am Film Independent”—premiered during February 27’s pre-broadcast festivities, and is currently the featured channel trailer on Film Independent’s YouTube.
Featuring interviews with Film Independent Members, Fellows, Alumni and Staff (including Effie Brown, Catherine Hardwicke, Josh Welsh, and many more) the trailer perfectly captures the spirit, mission and aesthetic of Film Independent.
We want to help filmmakers make their movies and build an audience for their projects. And we support an inclusive film community of individuals across ability, age, ethnicity, gender, race and sexual orientation.
Anyone can become a Member of Film Independent, whether you’re a filmmaker, industry professional or just a film lover. All that matters is your passion for film.
So kudos to Velasquez and company, as well as the team at Pentagram, who provided the spot’s creative direction and graphics, for capturing so many big ideas in just 90 short seconds of video.
So subscribe to our YouTube channel today. We have additional versions of the “I am Film Independent” spot featuring a lot more faces, both new and familiar, on the way soon.
2016 is off to a great start thanks to the support of our Members, Board, Staff and Fellows. Together, we are Film Independent.
