The McConaissance Comes to the Film Independent Forum!
It’s such a hot topic that Matthew McConaughey lately has been doing some of the most exciting work of his career that there’s even been a term coined for it: The McConaissance. First there was Killer Joe, Magic Mike and Mud. In January, there’s HBO’s True Detective, whose awesome trailer sparked some major blogosphere buzz. (Best line: “The world needs bad men. We keep the other bad men from the door.”) Starring in the first season of the new series, McConaughey and real-life pal Woody Harrelson look likely to fill the great anti-hero hole left in our hearts by the demise of Walter White.
So no wonder we’re super excited to be screening Dallas Buyers Club on October 25, Opening Night of the Film Independent Forum, where the film’s producers Robbie Brenner and Rachel Winter will be on hand for a Q&A. Says Film Independent’s senior programmer Maggie Mackay, “For someone who has loved, adored and (I’ll say it) lusted after Matthew McConaughey from his Wooderson beginnings, stuck with him through the dark years of unfunny romantic comedies and nude bongo arrests, and cheered him on during his recent indie comeback, it’s thrilling to see his turn as a homophobic redneck turned HIV activist in Dallas Buyers Club, a moving culmination of all his talents.”
