Sarah Friedland is a filmmaker and choreographer working at the intersection of moving images and moving bodies. Friedland’s debut feature, Familiar Touch, earned critical acclaim at the Venice Film Festival, where she received both the Lion of the Future – Best Debut Film and the Horizons Award for Best Director. On the heels of Venice, she won the Someone to Watch Award at the Independent Spirit Awards. Her previous work has been showcased at venues including NYFF, New Directors/New Films, BFI, MoMA and the Performa Biennial. Friedland was named one of Filmmaker Magazine‘s 25 New Faces of Independent Film 2023.
