Logline
An alienated, young Korean-American woman secures a coveted tech internship, but her insecurities and loneliness soon cause her to forge a disquieting obsession with a rival.
Synopsis
CHLOE CHO is one of the few female computer science students in her senior year. One day she applies for a coveted internship opportunity at Minos, a top Silicon Valley tech company. When Chloe arrives at Minos, she meets ANGELA CHOU, a Taiwanese-American, MIT student from an affluent and highly educated family. Chloe and Angela find themselves competing for the full-time job offers given to the top interns. As their friendship develops, so does Chloe’s insecurity and obsession with Angela. When Angela’s presence threatens Chloe’s success at Minos, Chloe takes extreme measures for her own survival.
SILICON VALLEY GIRL is a proof-of-concept narrative short film. It’s psychological crime thriller about what it feels like to be a token Asian-American, female engineer in Silicon Valley. It’s about the isolation, the competition, the unbearable loneliness, and the desire to belong at all costs.
Meet the Filmmakers
Yeon Jin Lee — Writer/Director
Yeon Jin Lee is a Korean-American writer and filmmaker. Her feature screenplay, Silicon Valley Girl, was supported by 2022 The Black List Lab, 2023 Norton Island Residency, and 2023 Almanack Screenwriters Lab. In 2021, Yeon Jin wrote and produced Jack and Lou: A Gangster Love Story, an audio drama series starring Lisa Kudrow in the lead role. She earned her MFA in Film & TV Production from USC School of Cinematic Arts. Prior to arts, Yeon Jin worked as a software engineer at NASA and as a technical director intern at Pixar.
Celene Di Stasio — Producer/Assistant Director
Celene Di Stasio is an International Executive Producer and Creative Film Director based in Los Angeles. Growing up in Napoli, Italy, she developed a deep appreciation for cinema and the arts. Her career has spanned multiple continents and diverse roles, beginning with a notable stint at Cinecittà Studios, Rome, often referred to as Italy’s Hollywood. Celene’s professional career continued to flourish as a producer at National
Geographic Society HQ in Washington, D.C., where she produced a range of acclaimed documentaries for the Italian and Latin American Channels. As an Executive Producer and Creative Film Director, Celene has spearheaded global campaigns for clients, including the US Air Force, US Coast Guard, The World Bank Group, Park Hyatt, Scaled Composites, HBO, and Netflix, winning recognition and industry awards.
Tia Cuevas — Lead Actress
Tia Cuevas is an actress and singer with Korean, Puerto Rican, and German roots, based in Los Angeles, California. Tia has been in the entertainment business since the age of six, starting off as a child actress and later continuing her career as a teenage K-pop girl group member. Fluent in both English and Korean, Tia has translated various scripts for radio, short dramas, and books. Tia graduated from Penn State with a
B.S. in Psychology, and coming from a multi-racial and multi-cultural background, she is highly interested in creating positive content that will help motivate and touch diverse groups of people.
