Join us for An Evening With… Colman Domingo as we rewind through his life and career, from the lights of Broadway, with roles in Well, Passing Strange and The Scottsboro Boys, to his lead performance in this year’s top awards contender, Rustin.

You will not want to miss this conversation with Domingo and long-time friend, director, producer and actor Natasha Lyonne.

He is nominated for Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards, the recipient of the Spotlight Actor Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and will be honored with the Virtuoso Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.

Colman Domingo is a 2024 Golden Globe, Critics Choice, Astra and Satellite Award nominee for his starring role as Bayard Rustin in the Netflix/Higher Ground film Rustin. He is set to receive the Spotlight Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and the Virtuoso Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. Colman received the 2023 Newport Beach Film Festival Honor for Outstanding Performance and was honored by the Critics Choice Association with the Actor Award for Film for Rustin. Domingo stars as Mister in the Warner Brothers/Oprah Winfrey/Steven Spielberg-produced musical motion picture The Color Purple that premiered on Christmas Day. He has also been honored by the Critics Choice Association with the Ensemble Award for The Color Purple. A two time Film Independent Spirit, Gotham, SAG, Critics Choice, NAACP Image, Tony®, Sir Lawrence Olivier, Drama Desk, Drama League and NAACP Theatre Award nominee for his work on stage and screen, Colman is an OBIE and Lucille Lortel Award-winning actor, playwright, director and producer.

Domingo produced and stars in the 2023 independent film Sing Sing, directed by Greg Kwedar, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and sold to A24 for a 2024 release. At the Toronto International Film Festival, Colman received the prestigious Tribute Award for Distinguished Career Achievement. Earlier this year, Domingo was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Production of a Play for the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Fat Ham on Broadway. He won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama, a Hollywood Critics Association Award for Best Actor in a Limited Series/Anthology, and an Imagen Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for his role as Ali in the HBO series Euphoria. In 2024, Domingo stars in an eight-part limited series for Netflix entitled The Madness, directed by Clement Virgo.

In recent years, Colman has starred in profound films such as Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Ava DuVernay’s Selma, Nia DaCosta’s Candyman and Janicza Bravo’s Zola.

Registration Information

Availability window and registration capacity may vary; always register as early as possible.

On the day of the event, registered Members may pick up tickets as early as 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time – look for Film Independent signage. Tickets are nontransferable and for general, unreserved theater seating only (except for Arts Circle Members). Attendees must be in their seat(s) at least 15 minutes prior to the advertised start time or seat(s) may be released. Entry/seating will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests may not enter the venue without the Member who registered them present. Registration does not guarantee entry, even with a ticket in hand.
 

Parking

Parking is free for this event, courtesy of Netflix. Please ask for parking validation at check-in. Convenient self-parking is available under the museum. Parking entrances are located on the east side of Westwood Boulevard (northbound) or on the west side of Glendon Boulevard (southbound), between Wilshire Boulevard and Lindbrook Drive.

Accessible parking is provided on levels P1 and P3. In the event that the museum parking garage is full, additional parking options are available.
