“A warm-hearted salute to Los Angeles pretensions,” Steve Martin’s L.A. Story is commemorating its 30th anniversary in 2021 and, to celebrate, Film Independent Presents at The Wallis invites you to join us for what might be our most madcap Live Read yet, with stellar guest director Marvin Lemus (co-creator/showrunner, Netflix’s Gentefied; Film Independent Fellow, Project Involve 2015) and a cast to be announced in the coming days.

L.A. Story has been universally praised over the years (it’s certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes), gave Steve Martin an outlet to write a love letter to the city that raised him, helped launch the career of Sarah Jessica Parker and still holds up with today’s audiences as a cultural tour of our beloved (with all its frustrations and eccentricities) Los Angeles.

About L.A. Story
Harris K. Telemacher (Steve Martin) has the easiest job in the world: he’s a TV weatherman in Los Angeles, where the weather is so predictable he tapes his forecasts days in advance. Bored with his job, his life and his relationship with longtime girlfriend Trudi (Marilu Henner), Harris begins to receive secret messages from an electronic freeway sign near his home, which lead him to pursue romance with a British journalist (Victoria Tennant) and a vapid young model (Sarah Jessica Parker).

From Lionsgate, L.A. Story will be available on Blu-ray for the first time in the United States on Tuesday, November 9.

Safety/Event Policies

Upon entry on The Wallis’ campus (indoor or outdoor), all audience members for any programming will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the performance date.

All patrons, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to properly wear a face mask over both the nose and mouth upon entering The Wallis’ indoor and outdoor spaces, for the duration of their visit. The Wallis’ health and safety protocols are also subject to change at the venue’s sole discretion, or in accordance with LA County and City of Beverly Hills regulations.

Availability window and registration capacity may vary; always register as early as possible. All ticket sales are final; no refunds or exchanges.

Attendees must follow all rules and guidelines as laid out by Film Independent and/or its partners. If a guest has been registered for an event by a Member, these policies shall apply to that guest. Violation of written policies and/or staff instructions may result in removal from the venue and/or suspension or termination of Membership/access to future events.
