Film Independent Members, you and a guest are invited to watch the HBO Documentary Film Simple as Water in our Film Independent Presents Online Screening Room, powered by Vision Media. A special pre-recorded conversation with director/producer/editor Megan Mylan, producer Robin Hessman and co-producer Hazem Obid, moderated by Louay Khraish (Senior Manager, International Programs, Film Independent), is included as part of this screening experience.

Epic in scope but intimate and elegant in feel, Simple as Water is a meditation on the elemental bonds between parent and child. A masterful look at the impact of war, separation and displacement, the film takes audiences into Syrian families’ quests for normalcy and through the whirlwind of obstacles — to building life anew. Filmed over the course of five years in five countries including Turkey, Greece, Germany, Syria and the US, Mylan’s sensitive camera reifies the universal importance of family.

Simple as Water will be available starting November 16 on HBO and HBO Max.

All Film Independent Members can register for this online screening starting at 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 28. | Registration is free; one registration per Membership. | Proof of Member status is required to complete registration.

On the first day of screening availability, registered Members (and guests, when applicable) will be emailed a secure link by our partner Vision Media to watch this title in the Film Independent Presents Online Screening Room.

Online Screening Policies

Availability window and registration capacity may vary; always register as early as possible to ensure access. Links are watermarked, nontransferable and may only be used by the Member who completed the registration. Limit one link per Membership, per event.
