Film Independent is pleased to welcome Jonathan Skurnik, Chair of New Day Films, which specializes in the non-theatrical distribution of documentaries. Jonathan will explain how the educational market works, how it’s changed and how it may evolve in the future. He’ll also discuss documentaries that are best suited to this type of distribution (and those that are not), what a typical educational deal looks like, what deliverables a filmmaker is expected to provide and who some of the major players in the educational market are.
About the Speaker
In addition to his role as the Chair of New Day Films, Jonathan Skurnik is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, educator and activist. Five of his films have broadcast on PBS and European Television and have been screened at the Museum of Modern Art, in art galleries and at over one hundred film festivals throughout the world. Jonathan also founded three groundbreaking, grassroots outreach and audience engagement projects that provide transformational educational experiences through facilitated screenings and immersive digital resources. Jonathan also directs narrative films, teaches filmmaking at local universities and works as a visual artist.
