Bio
Alice Austen’s stage adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm premiered this fall at the Steppenwolf Theatre to rave reviews and an extended sold-out run. Among her current works are: Bolshoi (play) w/Jeff Calhoun; Fourth Blood Moon (2015 “Blue Ink” Finalist); The Geometry Of Chance (novel). Austen’s recent Credits include: Ninth Man Out (Goodman Theatre Commission, 2013); Next Stop (Steppenwolf, 2013); Best Of All Possible Worlds (2013 Terrence McNally Award Top Five Premier Finalist); Plaza Hotel Ballroom (2014 Eugene O’Neil Semi-Finalist); and La Musica (adaptation of Duras’ work and a Timeout Critic’s Pick, 2012). Austen was named the ‘Next Big Thing’ Playwright (Chicago Magazine, 2013) and has received residencies at the Royal Court (London), the Goodman Theatre, TimeLine Theatre’s Playwright’s Collective, Chicago Dramatists, and the Hangar Theatre. Austen was the recipient of a Joseph Jefferson Award Nomination for Best New Work for her play Water. The first American awarded a fellowship to the European Court of Human Rights, Austen studied Creative Writing (under Seamus Heaney) and Law at Harvard University.
