Stephan holds and MBA in Business Administration from the University of Economics, Vienna and an MFA in producing from the American Film Institute, the latter having been funded by a stipend of the Austrian Ministry of Education.

Stephan has worked as a script consultant and producer both in Europe and Los Angeles. In 2001 Stephan formed his own production entity, Schindler Weissman Co., with his partner and writer/director Emily Weissman and together the team is developing numerous projects for the independent film market.

Stephan has produced two feature films and numerous commercials and music videos. He has worked his way up from production assistant to UPM and Producer in both the world of feature films and commercials / music videos. His producing experiences to date have been very hands-on, covering all aspects of production. Still, Stephan considers script development his premier background in filmmaking and he likes to think of story development as his true calling.
