The Naked Truth: Shooting Intimate Scenes

Many adult dramas require their characters to display affection; from simple kissing to R-rated scenes involving nudity, sex, kink or other intimate situations. In the wake of the #MeToo movement, it’s more important than ever that actors are made to feel safe and comfortable on set, and never forced to do anything outside their comfort level.

Film Independent is pleased to welcome Intimacy Coordinator Amanda Blumenthal. She’ll explain how she works with directors and actors to create a safe environment on set while ensuring that the project’s creative vision is realized. Topics covered will include: what an intimacy coordinator does and how their process works; why you should hire an intimacy coordinator; SAG nudity guidelines and closed set best practices; dealing with nudity riders; being an on-set advocate and ally for LGBTQ+ cast members; and how to make your sets safer even if you can’t afford an intimacy coordinator.
